Our expert team of scientists and agronomists employs modern breeding techniques, biotechnology tools, and field evaluations to ensure consistent performance and superior quality in every variety. State-of-the-Art R&D Centres

Our R&D operations are strategically positioned across two prime agricultural zones in India, ensuring that our research is tailored to the specific needs of different regions:

North Zone R&D Centre (Ahmedabad, Gujarat)

Spanning 15 acres, this facility is dedicated to research focused on improving crop performance in the southern regions of India. It features modern laboratories, field trial plots, and screening units, and is recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India.

South Zone R&D Centre (Hyderabad, Telangana)

Covering 15 acres, this center focuses on the southern zones and is also DSIR-recognized. The facility supports extensive research in crop improvement, addressing the unique challenges of the region. It is equipped with modern laboratories, trial fields, and screening facilities to accelerate the development of region-specific, resilient crop varieties.

Breeding Programs

We specialize in developing hybrids and varieties of Castor, Cotton, Pearl Millet, Maize, and various vegetable crops. Our breeding programs are designed to produce crops with superior yields, disease resistance, and adaptability to diverse agro-climatic conditions.

Product Testing

Our Multi-Location Testing (MLT) Centres across India rigorously test our products in various environmental conditions, ensuring optimal performance across regions.

Germplasm Bank

We maintain a comprehensive Germplasm Bank with over 25,000 trait-specific indigenous and exotic lines. This genetic repository enables us to explore and utilize diverse genetic resources for developing next-generation hybrids.

Collaborations

We collaborate with esteemed institutions like the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), and various State Agricultural Universities. These partnerships enhance our research capabilities and keep us at the forefront of agricultural innovation.

Notable Achievements

Over the years, our R&D department has achieved significant milestones:

Castor

We pioneered the development of Castor hybrids, with notable releases like Kohinoor (NBCH-66) and the first “Wilt Resistant” Castor hybrids, Bhim and Bhim+. Our hybrids are renowned for their high oil content and adaptability to diverse climates.

Paddy

Our paddy hybrid development prioritizes both coarse grain and fine grain varieties, catering to a range of market preferences. We're focusing on hybrids with different maturity groups to provide farmers with options that suit various growing conditions and harvesting schedules. This approach ensures that our paddy hybrids are adaptable, meeting the diverse needs of rice cultivation while maintaining high yield and quality.

Millet

The release of the Millet hybrid Bajra X002 in 1986 marked Navbharat as a research-driven seed company. This hybrid gained widespread popularity among farmers and paved the way for further innovations. Our research centres on advancing millet breeding to enhance heat tolerance, creating dual-season hybrids, and developing multi-cut hybrids for fodder. These core breeding strategies are designed to address the challenges of changing climates and meet the growing demand for resilient, high-yielding millet varieties. By focusing on these key areas, we're working to ensure that millet remains a sustainable and reliable crop for diverse agricultural needs.

Maize

We are developing maize hybrids tailored to meet market demands for rainy, rabi, and spring seasons. Our focus is on creating hybrids that not only thrive in these specific conditions but also exhibit strong heat tolerance. Additionally, we're placing a significant emphasis on developing fodder hybrids to support sustainable livestock farming. These efforts aim to produce versatile maize hybrids that cater to both grain production and fodder needs, ensuring resilience and productivity across diverse environments.
